BROWSER SAFETY GUIDE

How to stop unwanted video redirects.

A play button can trigger a pop-under or redirect before the video starts. The goal is to stop the unwanted destination without breaking the original page.

Why the first click opens an ad page

Some sites attach advertising scripts to the first interaction. The click opens a new tab, changes the current destination or passes through several redirect services. These chains can lead to scams, fake downloads or credential theft.

  • Do not install a “required player” from an unexpected page.
  • Close betting, prize and fake security-alert tabs immediately.
  • Do not allow notifications from a page opened by an unwanted redirect.
  • Keep Chrome and installed extensions updated.

Protection should be contextual

Blocking every link can make legitimate video navigation unusable. PhishMare focuses on suspicious cross-site redirects associated with video interaction, keeps the original page available and provides a small explanation when an unwanted destination is stopped.

Stay on the page. Leave the trap.
